Baseball: Alexandria 14U AAA baseball team wins state tournament

Alexandria beat Staples-Motley in a 4-2 game in the championship to wrap up a 6-0 run through the tournament.

PAYNESVILLE — The Alexandria 14U AAA baseball team finished off a strong summer season by bringing home a Babe Ruth 14/15U state title from a tournament that was held in Paynesville July 27-31.

Alexandria went 6-0 at the tournament. They beat Paynesville, Blackduck, Wadena-Deer Creek, Royalton and Barnesville on the way to the title game. Alexandria won a 4-2 game over Staples-Motley in the championship.

Coaches for the team are assistant Todd Johnson and head coach Erik Wimmer.

Players throughout the regular season and the tournament included Beau Jones, Conner Anderson, Hunter Powers, Brett Meyer, Brody Adelman, Easton Klimek, Easton Nelson, Evan Zabel, Griffin Wimmer, Landon Gess-Norling, Nik Schultz, Nolan Fettig, Nolan Johnson, Riley Perleberg and Zach Iverson. Brayden Iverson was the bat boy for the team. Easton Nelson, Hunter Powers, Conner Anderson and Riley Perleberg were all players drafted for the playoffs.

This team played 48 games this summer and finished with a 32-15-1 record.
