Alexandria to host Junior Legion tournament at Knute

A full breakdown of the schedule for the tournament, which runs Friday through Sunday

ALEXANDRIA - Knute Nelson Memorial Ballpark will play host to a junior American Legion Tournament on Friday through Sunday this week. The Alexandria Junior Legion Black team (11-3-1) and the Junior Red team (2-14) are two of the eight teams in the tournament.

The tournament will consist of four teams in a pool. Alexandria Black is in pool A, while Alexandria Red is in Pool B, and each team will play the three other teams in their pool throughout Friday and Saturday.

On Sunday, each team will play an opponent from the other pool which will be determined by how each team placed in pool play. The Championship game will be played at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Alexandria Junior Legion Black, which consists of the older-age level athletes in Junior Legion, begins the tournament on Friday with games against Aitkin at 9 a.m. and against Marshall at 1:30 p.m. They wrap up the pool play portion of the tournament against Elk River at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Alexandria Red begins the tournament with a game on Friday against Worthington at 8:30 p.m. before playing East Ridge at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and Blaine at 6 p.m.

If there is a tiebreaker, it’ll first be broken down by head-to-head record, then if necessary, runs allowed, then by runs scored, then a coin flip if needed.

Friday, July 8

9 a.m - Alex Black vs Aitkin

11 a.m - Aitkin vs Elk River

1:30 p.m - Alex Black vs Marshall

3:30 p.m - East Ridge vs Blaine

6 p.m - Blaine vs Worthington

8:30 p.m - Worthington vs Alex Red

Saturday, July 9

9 a.m - Marshall vs Elk River

11 a.m - Aitkin vs Marshall

1:30 p.m - Alex Red vs East Ridge

3:30 p.m - East Ridge vs Worthington

6 p.m - Alex Red vs Blaine

8:30 p.m - Alex Black vs Elk River

Sunday, July 10

9 a.m - Pool A 4th Place vs Pool B 4th Place

11 a.m - Pool A 3rd Place vs Pool B 3rd Place

1:30 p.m - Pool A 2nd Place vs Pool B 2nd Place

3:30 p.m - Pool A 1st Place vs Pool B 1st Place
