Pierce Peters scored his 1,000th-career point for the Minnewaska boys' basketball team but it was not enough as the Lakers saw their four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night against Montevideo in a 62-59 loss.
Minnewaska featured a balanced attack on offense with nine different players scoring. Three of those were in double figures with Peters leading the way with 14 points. He came into the game needing two points to reach the milestone in his career. The 1,000th point came from the free throw line early in the first half. Brady Johnsrud and Ben Peters each added 11 points for the Lakers.
Montevideo's Jeff Jerve was too much, though. Jerve had 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Ryan Boike and Eric Brandon contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively.
The Lakers came out strong and went into the break with a three-point lead. The second half saw the Thunder Hawks gain control, thanks to 35 points, 15 of those coming from Jerve.
Minnewaska fell to 10-13 with the loss and 6-9 in the West Central South Conference. The Thunder Hawks wrapped up their regular season with a 17-7 record and in second place in the WCSC with a 12-4 mark.
