Turkey hunting turned into a scouting opportunity for deer on a recent afternoon hunt when the birds were not cooperating.
This is a property that I just have turkey-hunting permission on, but I was curious what kind of deer activity there was too. It features a low creek bottom surrounded by high ridges with agriculture fields up top.
The cover is so dense that no one really hunts it for whitetails because getting in quietly is a nightmare when going by land, and even finding areas to get a shot off is difficult.
I found a good bedding area just off the main trail that runs through the trees. In this video, I break down how I would go about setting up within 100 yards of that bedding in a staging area, and how creek access makes this spot so great.
