Jackson Engelbrecht took full advantage of the first-ever statewide Minnesota youth firearms deer hunting season this October.

Jackson, 10-years-old, was hunting with his dad, Ryan, on property south of Alexandria when a nice doe presented a shot at 60 yards on the afternoon of Oct. 17. Jackson made good on his first shot, dropping the doe right in its tracks. It’s his first-ever deer.

“His younger brother, Nathan, who is 7, was also with,” Ryan said. “However, he slept through the entire thing. In my opinion, the youth deer season lined up over the school break was a great idea and provides an excellent opportunity to get kids involved.”
