The Osakis girls' basketball team got its season off on the right foot with a strong second half that helped the Silverstreaks pull away from Morris last Thursday night.
Morris was able to stay close before 34 second-half points led Osakis to a 58-36 win. Annalise Savageau and Danielle Chisholm hurt the Tigers all night by nailing open jumpers on their way to 15 and 14 points, respectively.
"This was a great way for our team to start out the year," head coach Pat Kalpin said. "It's not only the win, but how hard that we played is what really pleased the coaching staff. I felt defensively our girls played with intensity all night long. On the offensive end, the girls took care of the basketball. Early in the year, turnovers are more common, but they kept them to a minimum and took good shots."
The Silverstreaks committed just 11 turnovers themselves, while forcing Morris into many mistakes. Osakis finished with 20 steals. Savageau had six of those, while Michelle Alverson had four to go along with six points.
Kalpin was encouraged by the contributions he got from all over the court. Eight players scored for Osakis. Five of them had at least five points. The Silverstreaks also had 15 assists on the 21 field goals they made.

Osakis avenged a loss to the Tigers from last season. Morris won 69-52 last season, but the Silverstreaks showed what a difference a year can make to get their season started with a win.
