Osakis alum Carter Grove, who is a junior on the Saint John’s University cross country team and the track and field team, was one of three Johnnies who received the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Elite 22 Award for success in competition and in the classroom for their winter sports.
According to a Saint John’s press release dated Friday, March 10, 2023, for indoor track and field, the award is given to the student-athlete who has the highest GPA among student-athletes who placed in the top three at the MIAC Championships. The recipient must be in at least their second season of collegiate competition at their school and must be a junior or senior academically.
Ryan Thissen (Rosemount, MN - basketball) and Jack Grabinski (Sauk Rapids, MN - swimming and diving) are the other two Elite 22 Award winter sports recipients for the Johnnies.
Grove is a 4.0 GPA student-athlete who is majoring in computer science.
In competition, Grove has been one of the top athletes in MIAC as he placed 13th at the MIAC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 29, 2022, and earned All-MIAC honors (top 15).

Grove earned another All-MIAC finish at the MIAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24, 2023, with a third-place finish in the 5000m race (14:59.90) and helped the team come two points away from winning the conference title.

Grove has done a lot of winning this winter as he took first place at the CSB/SJU Alum Meet (3000m - 8:54.17) - on Jan. 28, 2023, then at the Gopher Classic (3000m - 8:38.94) on Feb. 4, 2023, followed by a first-place finish at the CSB/SJU Invitational (Mile - 4:23.74) on Feb. 23-24, 2023.
