Offensive outburst carries Osakis to 21-13 win over Sauk Centre

Lexi Klimek and Grace Oeltjen both have 4-hit days as Osakis puts up 21 runs on 21 hits.

The Osakis softball team (10-3) scored a season-high in runs on 21 hits on Monday to take a 21-13 game over Sauk Centre (7-7).

The Mainstreeters grabbed a 13-10 lead with a six-run top of the sixth inning. The Silverstreaks responded with 11 runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.

Osakis was productive up and down the lineup. Grace Oeltjen, Kennedy George, Laynee Hartshorn, Hayleigh Niehoff, Lexi Klimek and Maggie Dirkes all had two RBIs.

Oeltjen doubled and tripled as part of a 4-hit day. Her 2-run double in the sixth broke a 13-13 tie. Hartshorn homered and Klimek also had four hits.

“We hit the ball very well today, and we needed to,” Osakis head coach John Stigman said.
“This was one of those games in which the last team to score wins. We were fortunate to be that last team to score.”

Osakis now hosts a big Prairie Conference and Section 6AA game against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (10-4) today, Tuesday, with a 5 p.m. first pitch. The Thunder won a 10-9 game against the Silverstreaks on April 30. Both teams are 4-1 in conference play.
