After a couple rounds of snow early this week we are tracking yet another system to bring snow to the Dakotas, Minnesota, and more of the region. Winds will start to pick up on Friday as this next low pressure system noses into the Dakotas. Parts of both North and South Dakota will start to see snow develop on Friday. Moderate to even periods of heavy snow along a warm front will move through North Dakota and into Minnesota on Saturday. Winds will be changing for North Dakota as the center of this low pressure system passes through the state. Most will have temperatures in the 20s with a fairly strong southeast wind. Travel will be difficult with the combination of snow and wind.
Winds will be rather gusty with the potential of 30 to 40 mph gusts throughout the day on Saturday. Sustained winds will likely be in the teens and 20s. This potential wind along with the accumulating snow (which may be moderate to heavy at times) will lead to tricky and dangerous travel. Watch for changing weather conditions if you are taking to the roads this weekend.
Most of the snow will fall Saturday into early Sunday morning. A few snow showers may linger into Sunday. This will depend on how fast this system or how slow this system passes by the region.
Winds will switch to the north and northwest as this low pushes east and out of the the Dakotas and out of Minnesota Saturday night into Sunday. Expect gusts to still reach into the 30s and potentially near 40 mph in parts of South Dakota. This could lead to some ground drifting after the snow is done falling.
