The Alexandria wrestling team (15-16) competed for a second straight day on Saturday as the Cardinals dropped a 39-30 final to Morris Area-Chokio-Alberta and a 46-30 dual with New Ulm.

New Ulm book ended the dual with three straight wins to start and four straight to end it. All four of those final wins were six-pointers behind three pins and a forfeit.

Alexandria’s Blaze Nelson pinned his man in 59 seconds at 126 pounds ahead of AJ Sparr getting a 5-2 decision win at 132. Kelly Johnson (145, fall, 4:37), Tate Runge (152, fall, 1:55), JP Rodel (160, fall, 1:20) and Mason Teaser (170, 8-4 decision) rounded out the Cardinals’ wins.

It was a very similar story against Morris Area as the Tigers won the first four matches and the final three to secure the close win. Those final three wins all came by fall to erase a late deficit.

Isaac Saffert got the Cardinals’ first win at 132 pounds with a first-period pin over Ryker Erickson. Johnson got a forfeit win at 145, and Runge (152, technical fall, 16-0), Cody Vatnsdal (160, 8-2 decision), Rodel (170, 16-3 MD) and Teaser (182, fall, 1:42) added wins.
