Minnewaska boys excited for 2021 season as they sweep opener

Minnewaska boys tennis left no doubt in the start of the spring season with a 7-0 win over MACCRAY on April 6.

Tara Reichmann, the Minnewaska-Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa boys tennis coach, is ready to see her team have an enjoyable spring after the absence of the 2020 season.

“It’s hard to predict but I think the boys are very excited to be able to be outside playing tennis this spring,” she said heading into the Lakers’ first match on April 6. “We should be fairly competitive in our conference. Hopefully have a fun season and improve as we go.”

The Lakers dominated their season opener in a 7-0 win over MACCRAY. Each match was won in straight sets as Tate Reichmann, Damon Uhde, Gannon Walsh and Konner Hanson did not drop a game in singles. Ethan Quelle and Logan Maanum won 6-0, 6-2 at first doubles. Aiden Maanum and Connor Quelle won 6-0, 6-0 at second doubles, and Noah Palmer and Koultan Anderson won by forfeit in the third spot.

Reichmann, Uhde, Ethan Quelle, Nik Vandyke, Hanson, Logan Maanum, Connor Quelle, Anderson and Walsh all bring back some prior varsity experience. Reichmann, a junior, is the Section 8A singles champion from the 2019 season who can help anchor the lineup.

“We do have some returning letter winners from a couple years ago but will also be fairly young at some positions,” Reichmann said.

The Lakers hope to be playing their best tennis by season’s end during tournament time, where coach Reichmann expects Thief River Falls, the 2019 Section 8A champion, to be front runners again during the postseason.
