The Osakis softball team (4-1) dropped its first game of the season on Friday as Long Prairie-Grey Eagle used a Silverstreaks’ error in the sixth inning to break a 9-9 tie and score the winning run.

That was part of a seven-run bottom of the sixth for the Thunder (7-0). Osakis had scored six runs of its own in the top of the sixth for what looked like a comfortable lead at 9-3.

“We let this one slip away from us,” Osakis head coach John Stigman said. “Once they turned the tide, it was hard for us to stop their momentum. Sometimes you just can’t stop the bleeding, and every bounce bounces their way.”

Osakis had 10 hits in the game. Grace Oeltjen homered and had three RBIs and two runs scored. Unbeaten LPGE added 12 hits as a team.

“At this point in the season, we are happy with where we are,” Stigman said. “We have had our full squad for only one of five games. We are looking forward to getting back to full strength. It’s a great sign of good team depth to be where we are. Hats off to our team for rolling with the punches, adjusting to new positions and still playing good softball.”
