Area amateur baseball teams are ready to jump into the Region 16C Tournament that will take place in Urbank and Carlos over the next two weeks after wrapping up the regular season.
Fergus Falls , Vergas , Urbank (8-4), Sauk Centre (10-2) and Alexandria (8-4) all earned first-round byes to jump into the double-elimination portion of the 16C Tournament.
The playoffs start this Saturday with Long Prairie (8-4) playing Osakis (4-8) at 2 p.m. Pelican Rapids takes on Kensington (3-9) at 5 p.m. and Dent plays Carlos (5-7) at 8 p.m. All three of those games are in Urbank. The losers are eliminated from the tournament and the winners move on to play Sunday in the double-elimination portion of the field.
The Region 16C Tournament will continue on Aug. 7-8. The team that advances through the winner’s bracket on Aug. 8 will secure its spot in the region championship. Two teams from the losers’ bracket will play on Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. in Urbank to see who will advance to the title game. The championship is set for 4 p.m. on Aug. 14 in Urbank, and both teams that advance to the championship game will qualify for the state tournament.
