The Northstar Knights swept the North American Prep Hockey League Showcase in Blaine this past weekend in both the 16U and 18U divisions.
The 18U team dominated through four games, going undefeated and outscoring opponents 30-3 in the process. Kade Peterson had a hat trick and an assist in a 10-2 win for the Knights in the weekend opener. Blaise Miller (1 goal, 3 assists), Cody Croal (2 goals, 1 assist), Alexandria native Joe Westlund (1 goal, 2 assists), Jeremy McDonald (1 goal, 1 assist), Hayden Helgeson (1 goal), Owen Hanson (1 goal), Jacob Napier (3 assists), Anthony Menghini (3 assists), KJ Hjelm (2 assists), Tyler Johnson (2 assists), Reese Laubach (1 assist) and Wes Griffin (1 assist) all contributed to the offensive onslaught for the Knights. That made things easy on Chris Brown in net as he got the win with 20 saves on 22 shot attempts.
Northstar’s other wins came by 6-0, 8-0 and 6-1 finals. Maks Bure and Menghini each had two goals and an assist in that 6-0 win, while Westlund and Napier added single goals, as well. Logan Verpoort had a shutout with 10 saves in net.
Laubach and Calvin Hanson had two goals and an assist each in the 8-0 win. Helgeson, Miller and Menghini each added a goal and an assist, while Hjelm had a goal, as well. Brown got the win in net in that game with 13 saves.
Sunday’s finale came against Colorado Springs as Menghini capped off his big weekend with two goals and an assist. The other four goals came from Westlund, Owen Hanson, Griffin and Ashton Christman. Verpoort got the win in net by stopping 14 of the 15 shots he faced.

The Knights’ 18U team is back in action this Saturday and Sunday in West Bend, Wisc. against the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals.
16U team sweeps showcase
Northstar’s 16U team was equally as dominant as they went 4-0 and outscored teams 23-5.
Sunday’s final game saw an impressive showing from CJ Kier in net. Kier was peppered with 41 shots, but he stopped 40 of those in a 4-1 win. Kaleb Pitman, Alexandria’s Brayden Berg (2 goals), and Luke Schleter did the scoring in the fourth win of the weekend.
The Knights opened things on Friday with an 8-1 win against Colorado Springs where they scored three goals in the first six minutes. Schelter needed just 24 seconds to get on the board, and he scored five minutes later and again in the second period to complete the hat trick.
Adler Johnston, Jakox Grosdidier, Berg and Dawson McCann (2 goals) blew things open with goals, as well. Kier got the win in that game with 20 saves on 21 shots faced.
Alexandria native Beck Liden made his Knights’ debut in net during Friday’s second game and he got the win in a 5-0 final. Northstar got two goals within a three-second span from Johnston and Berg to open the scoring before Anthony McIntosh and Bronson and Tanner Hunt each added goals, as well.
The lone game on Saturday was a 6-1 win over the Indy Jr. Fuel where the Fuel led 1-0 early. That didn’t last long as Moline, Logan Anderson and Berg all scored in just over a minute span in the second period. Schelter continued his big weekend with two goals, and Alexandria’s Luke Russell scored his first goal of the season late in the third period to finish off the win.
John Simon got the win in net with 18 saves on the 20 shots he faced.

The 16U team goes to West Bend, Wisc. on Saturday and Sunday with the 18U program to take on the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals.
