The Alexandria Blizzard lost an offensive shootout on Saturday night as the Willmar WarHawks left the Runestone Community Center with a 7-6 win.
The game had six total goals in the third period, four of which came from Willmar. The Blizzard led 4-3 after the second period after goals from Alex Heidenreich, Zachary DeMarce, Matt McIntyre and Ryan Hadland.
The WarHawks responded with four unanswered goals in the first 11 minutes of the third period. Justin Wasvick and Cole Klingbeil scored for the Blizzard the rest of the way, but Alexandria could not quite complete the comeback.
Wyatt Johnson and Klingbeil each had two assists. Kaden Peterson, Hadland, McIntyre, Wasvick and Sean Kenny all added single assists, as well.
Bailey Rosch took the loss in net for the Blizzard with 36 saves and 7 goals allowed after Willmar outshot Alexandria 43-33.
Alexandria (9-8, 18 points) still sits one point ahead of Willmar (8-8-1, 17 points) in the West Division. Granite City (18-1, 36 points) is first in the division.
The Blizzard host a mid-week game against Willmar again on Wednesday, Nov. 24, with a 7:10 p.m. drop of the puck.
