Make it seven straight for the Alexandria girls hockey team.
That’s what the Cardinals (10-4-1) ran their winning streak to after a 3-0 win over Bemidji (1-15-1) on Monday night at the Runestone Community Center.
Alexandria put more than 40 shots on net for the second straight game. While the Cardinals would like to see a few more of those hit the back of the net, outshooting a team 43-10 like they did on Monday is going to lead to a lot of wins.
Senior Anna Doherty had two goals to lead the charge. Peyton Boesl assisted on both of them. Marki Oberg had the third Alexandria goal as she tipped one in off a shot from MaKenna Aure after Aure received a pass from Riley Nyberg.
Jordan O’Kane got the shutout in net with 10 saves. O’Kane, fellow junior goaltender Hailee Bailey, and this Alexandria defense have not given up more than one goal since falling in a 2-1 final against Brainerd-Little Falls on Feb. 11.
The Cardinals will be in Brainerd for a big Section 8-2A matchup on Thursday ahead of the playoffs. Alexandria (ranked No. 20 in state), Roseau (12-3-1, No. 17) and Brainerd-Little Falls (11-4, No. 14) are all right near each other in the section standings.
