The Alexandria Blizzard had to bounce back in a big way after taking a 7-0 loss to North Iowa on Saturday night, and the Blizzard did that with a 4-3 win on the Bulls’ home ice on Sunday.
North Iowa (21-6-1, 43 points), the West Division leaders, outshot Alexandria (11-15-1, 23 points, fourth place) 39-29, but the Blizzard made good on its chances with two goals in the first period and one each in the second and third.
It was a 2-0 game after Dallas Duckson and Nikolai Rajala scored in the first period for Alexandria. The Bulls came back, getting goals from Nick Mohs-Messerli, Carson Jones and Jack Campion around a Trent Sylvester goal for the Blizzard that made it 3-3 after two.
That set the stage for Sean Kenny. The Blizzard forward scored the game-winner at 9:35 of the third off an assist from Nolan Westra. The goal came shorthanded after Austin McNeil went to the bench for a tripping minor at 8:03.
Caleb Strong, Colin Tushie (2), Jered Sanborn and Kenny all joined Westra in having assists in the game. Atticus Kelly got the win in net by turning aside 36 shots.
Alexandria is back at home for two games this weekend when Willmar (14-12, 28 points, third place in West Division) comes to the Runestone Community Center on Feb. 26 and New Ulm (4-19-2, 10 points, fifth place) is in town on Feb. 27. Both games start at 7:10 p.m.
