The Northstar Knights hockey team had four players selected in the North American Hockey League draft on July 21, including Alexandria native Truett Olson.
Nathan Cox (Orchard Park, NY) is a 2020 graduate who joined Olson in being drafted by NAHL teams, while 2019 Northstar graduates Joey Dosan (Bloomington) and Jackson Vercellono (Laconia, NH) were also picked.
Olson, a two-year forward with the Knights, was selected at pick No. 211 in the eighth round by the Johnstown Tomahawks out of Pennsylvania. Olson finished his two years with Northstar by tallying 26 goals and 21 assists in 111 games. He had 20 goals and 11 assists in 55 games this past season.
Dosan was a second-round selection and 44th overall by the Minot Minotauros. He was a co-captain for the Knights in his one season at Northstar, where he scored 27 goals and added 47 assists (74 points) in 56 games. Dosan spent the 2019-20 season with the Steinbach Pistons of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
Cox is a defenseman who was taken in the sixth round and 157th overall by Johnstown. He played in 51 games during his one year with the Knights, tallying two goals and four assists.
Vercellono was taken in the ninth round of the NAHL draft and 223rd overall by the Maine Nordiques. In his one season at Northstar in 2018-19, Vercellono had 27 goals and 35 assists. His 2019-20 season included stints with the St. Cloud Blizzard in the NAHL, along with scoring 20 points in 21 games for the North Iowa Bulls in the NA3HL. He was then traded to the Lewiston-Auburn Nordiques, where he finished with 10 goals and six assists.
