The Alexandria Blizzard picked up a crucial road win over the Willmar WarHawks in overtime fashion on Saturday night.
The Blizzard (15-13-2-1) is currently trying to hold off the WarHawks (13-16-2) for the fourth and final spot in the West Division. With 14 games remaining on the schedule, head-to-head matchups are the easiest way for the Blizzard to extend its lead in the standings.
Derek Dropik scored the first goal of the game 17 seconds into the first period. Willmar’s Eli Slagter tied the game early in the second period before scoring his second goal to give the WarHawks the lead.
Ike Taraszewski evened the score for the Blizzard in the third period to force overtime. Brandon Connett scored the game-winning goal 43 seconds into the extra session to take home the win.
Bailey Rosch made 35 saves in goal for the Blizzard. Lukas Haugen made 37 saves but suffered the overtime loss for Willmar.
