After a couple losses to top-five ranked teams in state last week, the Alexandria boys hockey team bounced back emphatically against a section foe in Fergus Falls on Tuesday night.
The Cardinals (6-2) scored three times in each of the first two periods to run away with a 7-2 win. They outshot the Otters (3-4-1) 32-19 and got 17 saves from junior Landyn James in the win.
Alexandria left little doubt from the get-go, scoring just 35 seconds in on a Shane Birkeland goal assisted by Ben Doherty. Doherty added a shorthanded goal himself, and Andrew Revering scored off a Caleb Strong and Doherty assist at 2:55 to take a commanding lead.
Doherty had a four-point night with two goals and two assists to give him 16 points (10 goals, 6 assists) through eight games.
Evan Lattimer, Hunter Croonquist and Alex Jost all added goals against the Otters. Zach Wosepka had two assists, as well.
The Cardinals have one more games before Christmas on Thursday when they go to Brainerd (2-3) for a 7:15 p.m. drop of the puck.
