The Northstar Knights hockey team went to Chicago this past weekend and won the ProStock Prep Tournament after beating Loyola Academy 4-0 in the finals.

Linemates Joey Dosan, Jens Richards and Jackson Vercellono all scored in the championship. Alexandria’s Truett Olson created the final goal when he created a turnover and set up Connor Kemp for the score.

The Knights are 13-0-3 in their last 16 games. They played six games at the tournament as Northstar tied Illinois’ top-ranked team, the North Tier Green, earlier in the weekend in a 1-1 game and matched up with them again in the semifinals where the Knights won 2-1.

They fell behind in that semifinals game 1-0 before Joey Dosan scored on a power play with a tip in in front of the net. Kemp then knocked in a rebound for the game-winning goal. Camdyn Barber backed  the defense with 24 saves to get the win in net.

In the quarterfinals, the Knights knocked off the Stevenson Patriots in a 7-2 game. Richards led the way in that one with a natural hat trick, while Nate Albers (2), Dosan and Talon Sigurdson added goals. Alexandria’s Jakob Stender set up Albers’ first goal with an assist.

Kemp came up big again for the Knights in the first game against North Tier as he scored the equalizer that led to the 1-1 tie. Game two ended in another 1-1 tie against the Glenbrook Spartans. Junior defenseman Luke Anderson of St. Cloud scored Northstar’s lone goal, while junior goalie Collin Soderholm of Monticello stopped 22 shots in net.

The Knights opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over the Saint Viator Lions. Kayle Bocken of Monticello tied things up for Northstar with a goal that made it 1-1, and Kemp added the game-winner after being set up by Sigurdson. Ben Casey then added an insurance goal.

The Knights killed five power plays in that game, and Barber stopped 17 shots for the win.

Northstar will now travel to Faribault this Saturday and Sunday to take on the U18 team from Shattuck St. Mary’s.
