Hockey: Blizzard catch fire in wins over Wausau

The Blizzard outscored the Cyclones 16-3 and held a 122-33 shot on goal edge in the two games combined

The Alexandria Blizzard earned two convincing road victories over the weekend as it crushed the Wausau Cyclones (13-24-4) 10-2 on Friday and 6-1 on Saturday.

Michael DeBrito scored twice in Friday’s game, while Justin Kingery, Joe Gronholz, Ryan Hadland, Cole Klingbeil, Jameson O’Flynn, Justin Wasvick, and Hayden DeMars each scored one goal.

This is the second time Alexandria has scored 10 goals in a game, the first came in a win over the Willmar WarHawks on Oct. 15, 2022.

Alexandria had a 52-22 shot on goal advantage in the win.

Konrad Kausch earned the win in net for the Blizzard with 20 saves.

Jack Whitemore had four assists in the game.

The Blizzard got going early in their 6-1 win over the Cyclones on Saturday with first period power play goals by Ashton Collings and Ryan Hadland. O’Flynn, Sean Kenny, and DeMars scored in the second frame, and Wyatt Johnson scored a power play goal in the third period.

Alexandria had a 70-11 shot on goal advantage in the win. Mitch Miscevich earned the win in net for the Blizzard and made 10 saves.

The Blizzard (27-10-2) play on the road at the Granite City Lumberjacks (34-4-1) on the road on Friday, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m. and then host the Lumberjacks on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 7:10 p.m.
