Alexandria’s JD Hennen didn’t need all 12 runs to support his two-hit shutout pitching performance on Friday night against Becker.
The Cardinals beat the Bulldogs 12-0 in five innings behind Hennen’s six strikeouts and two big innings from the Alexandria offense. Devin Swerman, Shay Endres and Hennen each had a two-hit night at the plate. Caleb Runge and Endres tallied doubles in the win.
The Cardinals got things started by scoring two runs on an error in the bottom of the second inning. Runge drove in a run on the next plate appearance with a sacrifice fly before Dayton Downing scored on a wild pitch. Swerman and Endres singled in runs to cap off the seven-run burst.
Hennen’s second hit of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning when he drove in two runs with a single. Runge drove in two more runs with his double as part of a five-run fifth inning. After giving up a leadoff walk in the top of the fifth, Hennen retired the next three batters for the mercy-rule win.
