Burkum knocked off eighth-seeded Max Gardiner in his opener. Then on Thursday, he edged top-seeded Sam Franklin in a 1-up finish.

Burkum never trailed in the match, as his birdie on No. 1 gave him an early lead. Franklin responded with a par win at No. 2, and it was the start of a back-and-forth affair.

Burkum took three more wins on the front with pars on 3, 7 and 9, while Franklin won 6 and 8 with birdies to cut his deficit to one at the turn.

That’s when Burkum made his move. He won holes 10, 11 and 12 with a par and two straight birdies to go to 4-up. Franklin had a charge in him with par wins on 13 and 17 and a birdie win at 16. It wasn’t quite enough as Burkum’s par on 18 halved the hole and helped him hold on for the 1-up victory.

Bistodeau def. Erickson, 3-2

Alexandria’s Brandon Bistodeau took control early in his match and never looked back after a birdie, two pars and a bogey left him 4-up through four against Jake Erickson.

Erickson did have a run in him with wins by par at 5, 8 and 9. Bistodeau withstood that charge and got a par win at 10 and another at 15 to secure the 3-2 win.

Adams def. Bell, 19 holes

Nicholas Adams survived a close match against Joshua Bell in 19 holes.

Adams used a birdie win at 12 to move to 1-up. Bell tied it up late, but Adams was able to take the match on the first extra hole to secure his spot in the semifinals.

Stanz def. Suedbeck, 3-2

Rob Stanz rounds out the final four in the first flight after he withstood a late charge from Jack Suedbeck to win 3-2 on Thursday.

Stanz led by three after four holes when he won holes 2-4 with pars. Suedbeck regrouped and won 7 and 8 with pars, but Stanz took the next two with pars on 9 and 10. A bogey win at No. 14 helped put the match away after the two players halved Nos. 15 and 16.
