Braeden Sladek’s busy summer on the course continued last week as the Alexandria Area High School golfer added two more top-10 finishes to his resume.
Sladek played in a couple of national tournaments in Illinois and Georgia through the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). At the Taylormade TP5 Junior All-Star event, he finished tied for ninth with a three-round score of 214, good for 1-over par.
Sladek shot 69 in his final round after posting a 72 in round one and a 73 in round two. Waymon Thomas of Mount Pleasant, S.C. won that 54-player tournament with a 10-under par 203.
Sladek also shot 1-over par during three rounds at the AJGA Junior All-Star at Quail Creek event. He bounced back from a 78 in round one to shoot 70 and 69 over the next two rounds. That left him at 217, good for a tie for eighth place in a field of 53 players. Matthew Troutman of Louisville, Ky. won that event with a 14-under par 202, highlighted by rounds of 65 and 67.
Sladek’s play in multiple AJGA events this summer has moved him to No. 85 in the Rolex AJGA national rankings. He has earned an invite to the Junior Players Championship at the Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. That tournament will take place from Sept. 3-6.
Sladek is also an entry in this year’s Resorters Tournament at the Alexandria Golf Club set to run Aug. 2-8. He will take on the top players in the match-play tournament in the men’s championship flight.
