Golf: Cardinals distance themselves with CLC win

The Alexandria girls golf team has a three-point lead in the overall Central Lakes Conference standings with one meet left after winning by nine strokes in Richmond on Monday.

The Cardinals shot a 328 in the fifth of six CLC meets. Brainerd was second at 337 and Sartell rounded out the top three at 349.

“It was nice to give ourselves a more comfortable lead in the team standings of the conference,” Alexandria head coach Tim Zupfer said. “Brainerd continues to post scores that have our attention. We made some mistakes that caused us to have too many scores above bogey on our scorecards.”

Eighth-grader Hannah Boraas shot a 1-under 35 on the back nine and once again finished with medalist honors after shooting a 76.

“Her back nine could have been really low, as she recorded four birdies,” Zupfer said. “Her ball-striking continues to be strong, with 10-of-18 greens hit in regulation.”

Lauren Rebrovich was right behind her with a career-best score of 80 to tie for second. She hit 11-of-18 greens in regulation and used one birdie and 10 pars to highlight her round. Ciara O’Connor shot an 84 to tie for seventh, and Cora Larson rounded out the team scoring with an 88. Aisling O’Connor shot a 91, and Isabella Hagen carded a 101 from the sixth spot in the lineup.

“Isabella continues to show signs of improvement in her game,” Zupfer said. “She is hitting more good shots each round. She will be a low 90s shooter when she can limit her high scores to double bogey. She will continue to look to her short game for improvement.”

The Cardinals will try to wrap up the CLC championship today, Tuesday, when the conference teams meet in St. Cloud for the final league meet of the season.
