Two golfers who the Alexandria boys program will rely on heavily next season saw some success at a Minnesota Golf Association tournament recently.
Braeden Sladek and Grant Rebrovich joined up with Ian Simonich of Moorhead and Logan Hamak of Sartell to win the MGA Junior Team Championship that ran Aug. 12-13 at the Owatonna Country Club. This tournament is an individual stroke-play event where after each round they take the top three scores from the four players to get the team's total.
Sladek and Rebrovich’s foursome shot a two-day score of 428 after totalling a 218 on day one and a 210 in the second round. That was five shots lower than the second-place team and 20 shots lower than the third-place group.
Simonich led the way and finished first overall among all individual golfers with a 71 and 68 for a two-day 139. Sladek was sixth overall after he finished 2-over par at 144 with rounds of 73 and 71. Rebrovich tied for 31st among the 68-person field as he shot a two-day 157 (79, 78).
