The Alexandria girls golf team is ranked third in the Class AAA May 12 polls with a 330 scoring average, and the Cardinals were right near that mark in a win at Sartell on Monday.

Alexandria shot a 333 in the third Central Lakes Conference meet. That was well out in front of second-place Brainerd at 360 and third-place Sartell-St. Stephen at 365.

“We had some players struggle, especially early in their rounds,” Alexandria head coach Tim Zupfer said. “I was very pleased that we hung in there and still posted some good scores. The wind started out at about 10 miles-per hour, but was just a light breeze the second half of the round. The green speeds were very quick. Once we recognized we needed to keep the ball below the hole, we were more successful.”

Alexandria eighth-grader Hannah Boraas is ranked 10th in the individual Class AAA polls with her 78.5 average. She shot an 80 on Monday to earn medalist honors.

“Hannah had quite a few bogeys on her front nine, but no big numbers,” Zupfer said. “She hit 11-of-18 greens in regulation, recording one birdie and nine pars on her card.”

Aisling O’Connor shot her best high school round with an 82 that led her to third place. She shot a 38 on the back nine, joining Boraas and Cora Larson with 38s on the back. Larson was seventh with an overall score of 86, while Ciara O’Connor tied for fourth with an 85.

“Cora had a very rough start to her round,” Zupfer said. “She was 12-over par through six holes.  She finished the final 12 holes in just 2-over par. This was a remarkable effort on her part. She had to keep battling when things were not going well.”

The Cardinals did not use Lauren Rebrovich’s score, but she is part of the depth of this team after carding an 88 to finish eighth overall. Isabella Hagen’s round was highlighted with a 47 on the front as she finished off the lineup with a 102 total.
