Golf: Minnewaska Golf Club's Bryant Pearson wins Kyle's Lakes Area Classic

Pearson shot a 73 with a couple of birdies on the back nine to take the annual tournament at the Atikwa Golf Club in late May.

ALEXANDRIA — The annual Kyle’s Lakes Area Classic hosted by Alexandria’s Kyle Diekman of Diekman's Jewelry was played in late May this season as Bryant Pearson got the win in the championship flight.

Pearson, who works at the Minnewaska Golf Club, shot a round of 73 at the Atikwa Golf Club in Alexandria. He finished with a 37 on the front before a 36 on the back helped him hold off Gordy Diekman to get the win. Gordy shot a 75 to take second in the championship flight. Pearson’s back nine was highlighted by birdies on the par-5’s — Nos. 10 and 16.

Carter Doose and Joel Theisen both shot a 78. Casey Chermak shot a 79, and Matt Porwoll (80), Troy Hagen (81) and Neil Doose (83) rounded out scores from the championship flight.

Tyler Malotky was the first-flight winner in the NCAA Division with an 82. Matt Meyer won the first flight in the NIT Division with a 76, while Ryan Frucci was second with a 79.
