The West Central Area girls basketball team came just shy of qualifying for the state tournament this winter season, and the Knights had a lot of players honored for that after a 22-8 overall record.

Sophomore guard Lexi Bright earned three different team awards for WCA. She took home the Floor General, Chairwoman of the Boards and Dime Distributor Awards after a season where she averaged 20.2 points, 2.75 assists, 5.54 rebounds and 4.68 steals a game.

Freshman Claire Stark won the Knights’ Rookie of the Year Award. Stark put in 4.86 points and grabbed 3.07 rebounds per game. Sophomore Elizabeth Rustan won the Ms. Hustle Award after averaging 5.38 points and 4.36 rebounds.

Senior forward Kaylyn Ulrich joined Bright in earning multiple awards. Ulrich got the Defensive Dominator Award and also the Knight Award. She grabbed 2.25 rebounds and 1.36 steals a night.

Senior Hailey Bennett rounded out the team honors by taking home the Relentless Award. Bennett was third on the team in scoring at 7.76. She also grabbed 2.32 rebounds and 1.82 steals per game. Brynn Fernholz was second on the team in scoring at 8.1 points a night.

The Knights will lose four seniors to graduation in Teagan Nelson, Bennett, Ulrich and Ireland Winter. They will return a big nucleus of players next winter who helped lead this team to 22 wins in a season that ended in a 56-50 game against Henning (29-2) in the Section 6A championship game.
