The Minnesota Lakes Area Snowmen semi-pro football team will have its lone game in Alexandria this Saturday at 4 p.m.

This team was based out of Alexandria the last couple summers, but moved predominantly to St. Cloud for this season. They have played their home games at St. Cloud State University.

“The reason we went there is because St. Cloud had a team there for years, and then they basically folded,” Snowmen owner and coach JJ Kern said. “There was no team in the St. Cloud area. It was a little closer to home for me, so it just made sense. It’s a little bit bigger market, but the fact that we started (in Alexandria), I want to keep doing one game per year in Alexandria.”

Saturday’s contest will be played at the Alexandria Area High School. It’s the opening round of the playoffs against the Bismarck-Moorhead Veterans, a team that went 1-7 this season. The Snowmen finished 5-3 and first in their division. Kern said former Vikings quarterback Tommy Kraemer will be at Saturday’s game in Alexandria.
