The Alexandria dance team keeps making progress with the season nearing conference and section-meet time as the Cardinals went to Foley High School on Jan. 15 and came back with a first-place finish in the high-kick competition.

Alexandria finished with a ranking point total of 3.5 in kick in a field that included nine other programs. Crosby-Ironton was second at 7, and Holdingford rounded out the top-three with an 11.5 ranking point total.

The Cardinals finished second in the varsity jazz competition with a ranking point total of 6. That was behind Detroit Lakes (3), while Alexandria also finished fifth in the junior varsity jazz category with a point total of 14.

“The team performed with a huge amount of energy on Saturday,” Alexandria head coach Kassandra Gibbons said. “We knew it would be a battle as all three of our dances had holes in the formations due to injuries and sickness. Formations are scored in dance, so we had to make up for it with our accuracy and performance energy. The girls were successful in overcoming the challenge in all three dances.”
