Ashby-Brandon-Evansville cross country hosted a home meet on Tuesday at the Pine Ridge Golf Course.
It was a smaller meet with five total boys teams and two girls varsity programs earning team scores. Bertha-Hewitt won that boys meet with 36 points, while Otter Tail Central (50), A-B-E (53), Parkers Prairie (93) and New York Mills (124) rounded out the field.
Logan Froemming led A-B-E with a third-place finish overall in the 5K after his time of 18:52.6. Jayden Hoidahl (ninth, 19:20.1), Micah Fossel (10th, 19:20.9), Wes Siira (14th, 19:41.1) and Abram Fossell (17th, 20:16.7) were A-B-E’s scorers. Kian Gackle (20th, 20:39.7) and Donell Lee (27th, 22:16.2) also ran varsity.
“Logan ran a fantastic race,” A-B-E head coach Robert Bosma said. “He has had the goal to break 19 minutes all season and he told me Monday that he was going to PR, and he ran with confidence. In the last half mile of the race, Logan kicked early and passed a couple people, including Jayden and Micah. Right now, he's running strong and his leadership is going to be helpful in the conference meet next week.”
James Suchy continued to lead the Parkers Prairie boys as he won the individual race in 17:49.2. Behind him for the Panthers was Riley Kortenbush (18th, 20:32.5), Isaac Grabow (24th, 21:37.5), Ross Kortenbush (25th, 21:56.5), Justin Koehn (28th, 23:09.9) and Evan Washburn (30th, 23:30.8).
Ashley Paulson was A-B-E’s top individual finisher overall as she took second in the girls’ race as the team’s only varsity runner. Paulson finished the 5K in 22:21.1.
“Ashley continues her strong season by challenging Erika Heibel from OTC,” Bosma said. “Before the race, Ashley asked what times other girls had run and wanted to push to be at the lead. For most of the race, they ran side by side at a fast pace. It was great to see Ashley push herself to maintain this pace and taking second is a great race.”
Erika Heibel of OTC won in 22:02.2. Sarah Toyli was Parkers Prairie’s lone varsity runner as she finished in 11th place (25:06.5) out of 16 total runners. Otter Tail Central (25 points) and New York Mills (30) were the only two programs to earn a team score.
Ashby-Brandon-Evansville will run in the conference meet next Tuesday in Wadena.
