The Ashby-Brandon-Evansville cross country teams were in Menahga at the Blueberry Pines Golf Course on Tuesday where the boys finished fourth out of nine teams at the Park Region Conference meet. The girls did not field enough runners to qualify for a team score.
The boys finished with 106 points among their top five runners. Wadena-Deer Creek won the conference title with 33, while Ottertail Central was second at 63 and Parkers Prairie was third with 86 points.
Nine out of 10 A-B-E boys ran personal-best times at the meet.
“I cannot say how proud I was of how the team ran,” head coach Robert Bosma said. “We had talked in practice on Monday about our goal was top three in conference. We were pretty sure W-DC was going to win the meet and all seven runners placed top 20. Ottertail Central and Parkers Prairie really stepped up and their runners ran great races.”
Wes Siira led A-B-E with a 14th-place finish in 18:50.13. Abram Fossell was 16th in 18:55.8. Logan Froemming was 24th (19:27.48), Blake Merritt was 29th (20:02.14) and Jayden Hoidahl was 32nd (20:14.25) to round out the team scoring. Micah Fossell (38th, 20:28.66), Brian Lauthen (53rd, 21:33.83), Titus Fuller (54th, 21:39.05), Tyler Siira (76th, 24:52.42) and Nathan Anderson (78th, 25:13.57) also ran.
“Though we fell short of our goal with fourth place, the guys ran determined and ran in packs, which helped out a lot,” Bosma said. “I am happy with what our team did and you have to feel good that the times are really dropping. We have a lot of confidence going into the section meet next week.”
Kiatta Korkowski was A-B-E’s top girls runner in 52nd place with a time of 28:31.07. Emma Erickson was right behind her in 53rd place (28:34.99).
“Due to many factors, we only had two girls run. I was extremely proud of how they worked together and pushed each other,” Bosma said. “I hope they can keep that moving into next week and continue to build confidence in their running.”
Suchy paces Panthers
The Parkers Prairie boys were led to a third-place finish behind a runner-up individual finish from Johnathan Suchy.
Suchy finished the 5K in 17:21.76, while Wadena’s Bereket Loer was first in 17:00.74. James Suchy was next in line for the Panthers in 10th place (18:10.17). Jason Koehn was 21st (19:09.97), Justin Koehn was 30th (20:09.38), Cole Steele was 31st (20:13.52) and John O’Brien was 74th (24:38.51).
The Parkers Prairie girls had just one runner as Emily Don finished ninth in 21:49.71.
