The West Central Area cross country teams were in Litchfield on Saturday where the girls placed second to Hopkins and the guys finished 10th.
“It was a new experience for us in Litchfield against many teams that we usually don’t get to compete against throughout the season,” head coach John Van Kempen said.
Jacob Bright has been dominant this season, and nothing changed in Litchfield. Bright broke his own school record 5K time by winning the boys varsity race in 15:25.
“Next was Jack Van Kempen in eighth, Alex Salwasser in 10th, Kade Runge in 14th, Kyle Schill in 29th, Shad Swanson in 50th and Peyton Hanson in 109th, but he finished the race in 19:15 on a sprained ankle,” coach Van Kempen said. “Shad was just under 19 minutes for his new personal record. We are approaching our last few meets of the season and look forward to seeing if we can meet our individual and team goals.”
The girls were led by Lexi Bright in 25th place. Teagan Nelson was 26th, Brynn Fernholz 57th, Taylor Bennet 60th, Alexa Blume 87th and Brooklyn Runge was 122nd.
“Taylor has been racing well and gaining more confidence in her abilities,” coach Van Kempen said.
