The Osakis cross country teams were at St. John’s Prep for the Fr. Otto Weber Invitational on Sept. 24 as the boys finished seventh and the girls were 10th out of 11 teams.
“Everyone had a great race,” Osakis head coach Alison Triebenbach said. “We came off a hard week of practice, which we hoped would give them the confidence to excel on the trails at SJU, which are more difficult than most courses. Our runners performed above what we expected, which is great at this point in the season. It gives them the confidence they need to keep working hard and improving through the next couple meets.”
The Osakis boys had 170 points, while Maple Lake won the 5K run with 72 points. Royalton was second at 85 and Hutchinson rounded out the top three with 99.
The Silverstreaks’ Carter Grove had a great race as he took second in a field of 118 runners. Grove, a senior, finished in 17:44, just one second off the winning time of senior Ben Becker of Hutchinson.
Osakis freshman Marcus Wolf was next in line for the Silverstreaks as he finished 31st in 20:22. Logan Grove was 38th (21:05), Brently Boogaard 47th (21:45) and Joey Van Acker was 52nd (22:00) to round out the scoring. Thomas Van Acker (55th, 22:02) and Issac Loverink (60th, 22:39) also ran varsity.
The Osakis girls finished with 237 points. Maple Lake won the meet with 54. United North Central was second at 73 and Hutchinson rounded out the top three with 76 points.
Junior Destiny Dorman led the way for the Silverstreaks with her 31st-place finish in 25:09. Madison Nystrom was 41st in 26:02. Emma Tenhoff finished 47th (26:48), Hailey Hagedon was 54th (28:24) and Julianna Collins rounded out the lineup in 64th place (29:59).
