The Alexandria baseball team dropped its season opener on the road on Thursday as Sartell won a 12-2 Central Lakes Conference matchup.

This is a new-look Cardinals team with players getting their first taste of varsity baseball. Brock Lerfald had a two-run home run in the third inning, but it was one of just two hits for Alexandria against Sartell’s Chase Heying. Heying struck out eight and walked three. Dayton Downing had the Cardinals’ other hit as he doubled and scored.

Alexandria will turn the page quickly to host its home opener on Friday night at 5 when St. Cloud Tech comes to Knute Nelson Memorial Ballpark.
