The Alexandria girls basketball team kept pace atop the Section 8-3A and Central Lakes Conference fields on Saturday with a 57-44 win at Sartell-St. Stephen.

The Cardinals (13-3) are 11-1 in the CLC, one game up on Willmar (11-3, 10-2 CLC) heading into a Monday night game against Brainerd (11-4, 8-4 CLC) on Senior Night for Alexandria.

Head coach Wendy Kohler said the Cardinals’ balance was key against the Sabres (6-10, 6-8 CLC) as five different players had at least seven points.

“Efficient shooting percentages, 50/50 balls, excellent ball movement, laser-like passing leading to assisted baskets, and a locked in defense were keys in the attack,” Kohler said.

Jaya Hatlestad led three in double figures with 16 points, while Alayna Strand had 12 and Mataya Hoelscher added 10.
