The Alexandria girls basketball team picked up its fourth consecutive victory in a 46-44 victory over Sartell-St. Stephen at home on Friday.

Head coach Wendy Kohler said the Cardinals navigated Sartell’s three-quarter court press and match-up zone well enough to force some changes.
“Patience and protecting the ball were key factors in forcing the Sabres to switch defenses,” Kohler said. “Credit Sartell as they hit some big perimeter shots to hang around within striking distance and took their first lead late in the contest by three.”
After Sartell took a late three-point lead, Brooke Heggie answered with a three-pointer to tie the game. The Cardinals then took a late two-point lead with time for one final possession for Sartell. The Cardinals were able to force the stop, picking up the two-point home victory.
Kohler was happy with the Cardinals’ effort to control the game’s turnover margin. Alexandria only had 10 turnovers while Sartell ended up with 25.
Heggie led the Cardinals by scoring 18 points and blocking four Sartell shots. Macy Hatlestad added 10 points, and Kendall Kohler finished with eight.
Kiyana Miller, Hatlestad and Heggie each picked up four rebounds in the game.
The win improved the Cardinals to 4-1 overall and 3-0 against Central Lakes Conference opponents.
