Cardinals split in Fergus Falls

Alexandria wrestling beats Fergus Falls around a loss to Brainerd.

Alexandria wrestling (15-14) went 1-1 at Fergus Falls on Friday night, beating the Otters 45-34 and falling to Brainerd in a 53-21 final.

Brainerd won the first three matches before Blaze Nelson got a forfeit win at 126. Cody Vatnsdal pinned Adam Cox in 1:02 at 152 pounds, and Tate Runge (160, 6-3) and JP Rodel (170, fall, 0:56) added wins, as well.

Alexandria built up a big enough lead in the early-to-mid weights against Fergus Falls.

Mason McGrane pinned Blake Roberts at 106 (1:17), and Nelson got another forfeit win at 126. AJ Sparr and Isaac Saffert followed with forfeit wins at 132 and 138.

It was part of a stretch of six straight wins for Alexandria. Kelly Johnson (145) got a third-period pin (5:12), while Runge (152, 11-7) and Rodel (160, fall, 0:39) helped separate the Cardinals from the Otters. Fergus Falls ran off four straight wins from 170-220, but David Rauscher finished off Alexandria's win with a pin in 1:52 at heavyweight.
