The Cardinal boys' basketball team almost came away with a win against one of the top teams in the Central Lakes Conference last Friday night.

Little Falls came to Alexandria and trailed by eight at the break before the Flyers battled back in the second half to pick up a 56-50 win.

The Cardinals had the Flyers on the ropes in the first half. They controlled the glass and contained the Little Falls post presence on defense and moved efficiently on offense to create open looks.

The first two minutes of the second half proved to be a crucial juncture for the Cardinals. Little Falls was able to get the lead back behind increased pressure that got them some easy scoring opportunities. The Flyers held on down the stretch as they moved to 8-2 in the Central Lakes Conference.

"Our guys played with an impressive level of energy and passion," Alexandria head coach Forrest Witt said. "That energy needs to be consistent from game to game, and if we can do that, our basketball team can be very good.
