Buffalo rallies in the third to earn an OT tie with Alexandria

Hanley Block and Peyton Boesl get second-period goals for the Cardinals.

The Buffalo-Maple Lake girls hockey team rallied from a 2-0 deficit after two periods on Saturday to force overtime in an eventual tie with Alexandria.

It was a Section 8AA matchup as the Cardinals (2-4-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Hanley Block and Peyton Boesl in the second period. Kaci Trosvig, Kennedy Ellingson and Ella Westlund had assists on the two goals.

Buffalo (1-5-1) got a goal from Nicole Swartzer at even strength early in the final period. Raegan Wurm then scored on the power play at 8:30 of the third off assists from Anna Kubu and Cece Ryden to tie the game.

Alexandria outshot Buffalo 32-25. Jordan O’Kane stopped 23 shots for the Cardinals, while Madeline Mootz had 30 saves for Buffalo.
