This is one of my favorite buck-encounter breakdowns of this video series because the way the buck used the terrain on this specific Nov. 1 morning hunt from the 2019 season is something I have seen them do consistently.
The seeking stage of the rut during late October and early November is one of my favorite time periods to bow hunt. I think bucks during this time can be very patternable in how they scent check areas of high doe activity. Sometimes that means getting off primary trail systems even in tight pinch points, as hard as that can be to do.
As someone who loves to deer hunt and hunt upland birds, I liken bucks during this period to an experienced bird dog hunting pheasants in how they are going to use their nose to cover as much ground as possible.
