Brandon-Evansville senior Bailey Schaefer had a record-setting volleyball season for the Chargers this past fall, and she carried that over into basketball and did the same thing.
Schaefer earned Brandon-Evansville’s MVP Award, the Hardest Worker Award and the Offensive Player of the Year Award. She was also an All-Little Eight Conference and All-Pheasant Conference player. Senior center Mikenna Pattrin joined her on that All-LEC team, while Olivia Otto was an honorable-mention selection in the LEC.
“What Bailey was able to do from a statistical standpoint this year was truly remarkable considering where she was last year as a basketball player,” B-E head coach Zach Traphagen said. “She finally put in some extra time working on her shot last summer and into the winter months after volleyball season. She would stay late after practice every single night, and would get shots up after lifting in the morning too, something that was an afterthought her junior year.”
Schaefer broke or tied four different school records. Her new records include most points in a single game (37 at Rothsay), three-point field goals made in a game (7 at Rothsay) and most defensive deflections in a game (10 at Underwood).
Her 14 total field goals in that 68-39 win at Rothsay on March 13 tied a school record that was set by Heather Strese in the 2011-12 season.

Schaefer averaged a team-best 18.9 points per game on 34.7% shooting from three, 41.3% shooting overall (129-of-312) and 71% shooting from the free-throw line. She added 98 total rebounds (second on the team) and a team-high 51 assists and 71 steals.
“The best thing about her success this year was the positive effect it had on her teammates who would also stay late after practices to get extra work in as well,” Traphagen said. “My hope is that her success has a trickle-down effect on the rest of the program that if you put in the extra time, the results will come.”
Senior Korrie Randt earned Brandon-Evansville’s Best Teammate Award. Randt provides a boost in all her sports with her positive attitude, and she also chipped in 12 points off the bench this past winter.
Olivia Otto was the Chargers’ defensive player of the year, and Grace Otto earned the Most Improved Award. Olivia averaged 5.5 points per game and grabbed 80 rebounds and dished out 36 assists. Grace chipped in 25 total points and 35 rebounds.

Mikenna Pattrin also came just shy of becoming the sixth girls player to reach 1,000 career points this past year. Pattrin finished with 932 points. She missed four games due to injury in a season that was already shortened due to the pandemic. In 15 games played, Pattrin averaged 13.7 points and grabbed a team-best 130 rebounds.
