The Brandon-Evansville girls' basketball team won its opening round game of the Section 6A Tournament last Thursday night and rebounded from two losses to end the regular season with a 70-50 win over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley.
The Chargers jumped on the Wolverines early, holding them to just 15 points in the first half on their way to a 20-point lead at the break. They extended that lead to 27 at one point in the second half before CGB caught fire from the outside.
"I think the key was we got off to a good start," head coach Dick Simpson said. "The other two games that we lost last week, we didn't really shoot that well. We came out [against CGB] and knocked down some shots early. That made a big difference."
The Wolverines were never able to climb back within striking distance, thanks to that early start. A balanced attack from Brandon-Evansville made sure of that. Four different players scored in double figures for the Chargers.
That is when the Chargers are at their best. They had eight players score in all, including seven that scored at least five points. That balanced attack is a formula that has resulted in 22 wins so far this season.

Heather Strese led the offensive attack with 15 points. Katie Boesl was right behind with 13, while Megan Boesl and Jenna Meissner added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Megan Strese came up one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
