The Osakis boys basketball team had an inexperienced varsity roster coming into the season, but that won’t be the case next winter as this group went 14-6 and is expected to return the majority of its lineup in 2021-22.
Included in that season record was a 10-0 mark in the Prairie Conference as Osakis won the league championship for a fifth straight time.
Junior center Brady Mages stepped into a prominent role and earned the Silverstreaks’ MVP Award after averaging nearly a double-double. Mages put up 13.3 points and 9.9 rebounds per game in 20 contests. His 197 total rebounds led the team and so did his 57.7% field-goal percentage from two-point range.

Junior Carter Watnaas was the team’s defensive player of the year. Watnaas was second on the team with 136 total rebounds and first in blocks with 27.
Senior Kellen Anderson won the Most Improved Award, and sophomore Stewart Jones won the Silverstreak Award. Anderson averaged 4.5 points and added 45 total rebounds, 33 assists and 19 steals. Jones added 3.1 points per game to go with 31 rebounds, 8 assists and 8 steals.
Freshman guard Drew Imdieke won a performance award as he led the team in assists with 59. Junior guard Bauer Klimek was Osakis’ leading scorer at 18.9 points per game in 18 games played. That included a team-best 37.2% shooting from three (68-of-183).
Freshman guards Kyle Mages (31 steals) and Mekai Hoelscher (84.6% free throws) also won performance awards.
Brady Mages, Kyle Mages, Watnaas and Klimek were All-Prairie Conference players, while Hoelscher and Imdieke were honorable-mention selections. All six of those guys are expected to return next winter to help the Silverstreaks build on a 14-win season.
