On Tuesday, Alexandria senior Jack Carlson signed to be a student-athlete for Saint John's beginning next fall. Carlson had eight goals and three assists this season for the Cardinals
Alexandria trailed 1-0 for most of its Section 8AA semifinal game against St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday but tied the match with a Cole Haabala goal late in the second half to send it to overtime. St. Cloud Tech, the defending section champion, won in a penalty kick shootout, 7-6, to win the match 2-1, and advance to the Section 8AA championship game.
One goal is all the No. 2 seed Alexandria needed to beat the No. 7 Sauk Rapids-Rice in the Section 8AA quarterfinals on Thursday. Jack Carlson scored the lone goal of the match to push Alexandria to the section semifinals where it meets the No. 3 seed St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Viking Bank Field in Alexandria.
The Lumberjacks bagged three goals in a 10-minute span on Saturday, a lightning-fast attack that produced a 3-1 win at Alexandria to close the regular season.
