After finishing just one win away from the state tournament, the Alexandria volleyball team reflected on its season by holding a team awards banquet recently.
Kalley Bistodeau was named the team’s Most Valuable Player for her efforts on the court this season. Liz Schultz was named the Offensive Player of the Year, and Gretchen Watkins received Defensive Player of the Year.
Morgan Melrose was the recipient of the spirit award, Katie Dolan earned the Hustle/Hardest Worker award, and Jordyn Lamb was named Most Improved.
The Cardinal Award for Leadership was given to Bistodeau and Watkins, and the Coaches Award was given to Schultz and Haack.
The Cardinals also had five players receive recognition from the Central Lakes Conference. Haack and Schultz were named all-conference, and Bistodeau, Watkins and Dolan were named all-conference honorable mention.
Haack and Dolan also received All State Academic awards.
The Cardinals wrapped up the season 17-13 overall and 8-4 in the CLC. They beat Monticello in the opening round of the 8AAA tournament and then knocked off top-seeded Sartell-St. Stephen to make the title game.
Their goal of making the state tournament came up one win short after Bemidji beat Alexandria in three sets on November 1.
