The Alexandria Beetles recently announced the hiring of a new head coach for the upcoming summer.
Matt Hancock, an assistant coach at the University of North Alabama, will take over in 2011 after serving as the Beetles' assistant in 2008. He entered his sixth season as a member of the UNA Lions coaching staff this spring and his third year as their full-time assistant coach.
Hancock has helped the Lions to a 61-44 record over the last two seasons. He was a four-year letterman for the Lions as a pitcher from 2002-2005. He posted a 20-5 record during his career with UNA. The 20 wins still rank third best in school history. Hancock pitched 206 2/3 innings in 58 career appearances, striking out 128 and walking just 46 batters along the way.
Hancock received his Bachelor of Science degree in history from UNA and is in the Health and physical education graduate program. He is married to former UNA soccer player Emily Cotham.
