The West Central Area girls basketball team handed the Hancock Owls their first loss of the season on Tuesday night in the subsection championship game.
Hancock (18-1) beat the Knights (16-5) in 54-46 and 62-45 games during the regular season, but WCA stole the biggest game of the season from them in a 50-49 final in the 6A-South title game. It advances the Knights to the Section 6A championship against defending section champion Henning (20-1) on Thursday night at 7 in Fergus Falls. The Hornets beat the Knights 56-50 in last year’s section championship.
West Central Area was trailing by one point with less than a minute to play at Hancock on Tuesday. A late steal and then a layup from Lexi Bright was the game-winner for the Knights.
Bright finished with 11 points, eight assists, six rebounds and two steals. Eighth-grade guard Macy Grosz had a second straight big game for the Knights with a team-best 15 points. She knocked down 4-of-5 threes.
